Indianapolis City Market Whistler Plaza

Project Description:

The Indianapolis City Market is located in downtown Indianapolis and was founded in 1821. It has served as a public food hall since 1886. Immediately adjacent to the Market, Tomlinson Hall served as a social meeting hall with an auditorium until it burnt down in the 1950s. The basement foundation remains buried underground and will be unearthed and integrated into the new Whistler Plaza renovation. The City Market block will reopen as a popular destination for residents and visitors within a new plaza setting that celebrates Indianapolis history with brick and stone Tomlinson Hall columns and arches that are now accessible to the public from the exterior. New urban tree canopy and lush garden spaces will create a comfortable and welcoming space to enjoy food and drink from the Market and explore Indianapolis history.
