Work has started in downtown Indianapolis for the City Market Whistler Plaza project. The first phase of construction involves removing a 1970s building addition within the plaza footprint, and preparing the remaining underground masonry and stone from the foundation structure of the former 1880s Tomlinson Hall building that sat adjacent to the City Market building. The basement structure, referred to as the “Catacombs” will be daylit with the brick columns and arches integrated into the new Whistler Plaza renovation aimed for completion in the fall of 2027.
